PWSA Lifts Precautionary Flush and Boil Water Advisory for Brighton Heights, Marshall-Shadeland
Pittsburgh, PA - Effective immediately, the precautionary flush and boil water advisory impacting residents in Brighton Heights and Marshall-Shadeland has been lifted. The Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority (PWSA) received confirmation from two rounds of water quality testing that the water in these areas is safe to drink. 
Customers in these areas are no longer required to flush or boil tap water before consumption. PWSA recommends that customers using their water for the first time in several days run their taps for at least one minute before using it for cooking or drinking. This helps remove stagnant water from plumbing and brings in fresh water from water mains.
The precautionary flush and boil water advisory was triggered after PWSA experienced a 16-inch water main break on Brighton Road, between Woods Run Avenue, and Harbison Avenue at approximately 2:00 a.m. Monday, July 23rd. This caused low water pressure within these boundaries of Brighton Road and adjacent streets. 
When the advisory is in place, PWSA must conduct two rounds of testing within a 48-hour period to confirm adequate disinfectant levels and verify that the water is safe to drink. After two consecutive rounds of testing show satisfactory results, the precautionary advisory can be lifted. We recognize the inconvenience of having to flush and boil water. However, the advisory is issued in an abundance of caution to ensure the safety of our water and customers. 
Testing has demonstrated that all drinking water requirements are being met, and there is no longer a potential risk to the drinking water supply. The advisory impacted approximately 4,600 households in Brighton Heights and Marshall-Shadeland.
