Press Release
Notice of Possible Discolored Water
Northern neighborhoods impacted

May 8, 2017 -- An early morning electrical outage caused a temporary pump failure at the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority's (PWSA) Bruecken Pump Station. The pump was restarted shortly after the outage and the water system has returned to normal operations.

The temporary pump outage may result in discolored water for some customers in northern areas of the City of Pittsburgh. Despite the discoloration, the water meets all drinking water quality standards. If you experience brown or discolored water, PWSA recommends that you:

1.) Run your cold water tap for a few minutes until the water is clear. If it is not clear the first time, wait a few minutes and repeat this process.
2.) Avoid washing clothes until the water clears. If your laundry does become stained, do not put it in the dryer. Rewash clothes with detergent and a rust removing agent. Rust remover can also remove stained fixtures.
Customers with additional questions may call PWSA 24/7 at 412-255-2423.
